Statement
The director of Gallerie Australis David Cossey, has been exhibiting
Aboriginal art both nationally and internationally since 1988.
Throughout
this time, David Cossey has nurtured important working relationships
with art communities and artist’s residing in remote regions of
Australia.
In early 1992 he met Utopia artist’s Kathleen
Petyarre, Abie Loy and Violet Petyarre and quickly developed a close
personal relationship which continues to this day. This special
relationship and his personal encouragement has allowed him to witness
the evolution and geneses of these renown artist’s careers.
David
Cossey has been responsible for undertaking a series of Australia’s
most important Aboriginal art commissions. He has also produced
numerous articles and publications, together with several documentary
films on the subject of Australian Aboriginal art. He is a
regular contributor to the art literary pages of The Times, London.
